Heliogravure engraving “Joseph telling his dreams”
Rembrandt Harmensz Van Rijn, better known as Rembrandt (1606-1669), was a Dutch painter and engraver. He is one of the greatest painters in the history of European art.
Heliogravure was invented in France by Joseph Nicéphore Niépce. Around 1822, it was used from 1855 to copy prints and engravings of ancient masters. This method was adopted by Charles Amand Durand and others. This collection has been verified by the British Museum Print Room.

This excellent quality print, from a private French collection, was made between 1860 and 1880 on Japanese paper, like the original.

Historically, many collectors affixed stamps or signed the prints they acquired, so-called “collectible brands”. Some, including this one, bear the manuscript title in French under the engraving.
